Why Donate?

Donations to Goodwill change lives through education, career services and support for individuals in the Big Bend community. In fact, one donation provides three hours of career training. Our Career Resource Centers, staffed with extraordinary teams of Career Specialists, are powered through donations.

This is not new for us. Since 1919, Goodwill has believed in the transforming power of work. Over the past 100 years, our services have changed to respond to the needs of the times. We began by helping people with disabilities or disadvantages repair donated items. We helped connect our neighbors with basic services during the Great Depression, and we were proud to provide training and jobs for wounded soldiers coming back from World War II.

When technology became part of the American workforce, we trained people on computers. During recessions, we have been instrumental in connecting people to jobs. Although our services have changed, our belief in a hand up, not a handout has remained the same.

Today, Goodwill is the premier provider of social services, career training, education, job placement services, community programs, transitional employment, and other services to create employment opportunities for individuals facing barriers to employment. Our ability to evaluate, train, coach, and support individuals with multiple challenges —providing them with real world, hands-on work experience they can build on, differentiates Goodwill from other workforce development providers.

By donating apparel and goods, making a financial contribution or volunteering, you are helping individuals find dignity and hope through the power of work. See how your donations changed Chris’s life in the video below:
